Taking the GED® in Idaho

You must be at least 18 years old and not currently enrolled in high school to be eligible to take the GED®. If you are between 16 and 18 years old, you’ll need to send a completed GED® Youth Waiver form to your selected testing center before you can schedule any tests. Email notification will be sent to the tester once the youth waiver is processed by the testing site. Please note that you can study for the GED® and take GED® Ready tests without a waiver on file at the testing center.

To register to test for the GED®, please visit GED.com. There you can set up a user profile, view testing sites in your area, and schedule tests. Taking all four tests costs $120 total. You do not have to take all the tests at the same time, and they can be taken in any order. The four current GED® tests are:

  • Reasoning Through Language Arts: $36
  • Mathematical Reasoning: $36
  • Science: $36
  • Social Studies: $36
Please Note:
The information you provide when you register at GED.com is the information that will appear on your official GED® records. Use your full legal name, and provide the correct address and contact information.

GED Transcripts

The State of Idaho uses Parchment, an external internet-based service, to manage and verify all GED records for the state. All GED’s completed in Idaho, regardless of the year passed, are contained in this database.

Each GED passer automatically receives a free eTranscript and eDiploma, sent to the email account on file with GED.com. New passers are also eligible for a free paper diploma, which can be ordered by visiting GED.com. The offer for the paper diploma does not expire until it is ordered.  Additional copies of GED diplomas or transcripts can be ordered for $15 each.  Your GED transcript can be emailed or mailed to you, an employer, school, or other organization.

Information for Third-Party Requestors

IDCTE does not provide GED® verifications, and state employees are unable to provide GED® attainment verification to potential employers. Non-academic institutions must set up an account with Parchment as a third-party vendor.

High School Equivalency Certificate

If you passed the GED before 2014, you can request a High School Equivalency Certificate (HSEC) from the Idaho Division of Career Technical Education. A HSEC is the GED® counterpart to a high school diploma, which indicates they have achieved the equivalent of a high school education. The certificate is a high-quality, individually numbered, and frameable document signed by the State Superintendent of Education. It excludes test scores or other information about your GED®.

Testers who pass the GED series after 2013 must order their documentation through Parchment.

GED Testing Service is a joint venture of the American Council on Education, which started the GED® program in 1942, and leading education company Pearson.

WARNING: You may encounter companies who claim to provide online GED® testing. These tests are considered unofficial and often cost much more than the official GED® test.
