You hold or previously held a secondary career technical education (CTE) certificate for grades 6-12.
Renew your certificate
Choose this option if you hold a five-year renewable secondary CTE certificate that expires Aug. 31 of the current year. Don’t apply before Jan. 1 of your expiration year. Applications submitted before that date will be returned.
What you’ll need
Complete the equivalent of six credits during your certificate’s validity period.
At least three credits must be educationally or content-focused college or university credits documented on an official transcript.
The remaining three credits may include:
- Additional transcripted college or university credits
- 45 hours of approved conferences, in-service training or workshops
- 120 educationally or content-related back-to-industry hours
- A combination of these options
One transcripted credit equals 15 hours of approved training or 40 hours of back-to-industry work.
Important
Don’t use back-to-industry hours if you also hold a Degree-Based Career Technical Certificate or Standard Instructional Certificate.
You may add endorsements or certificates during renewal at no additional cost if you provide documentation demonstrating that you meet the requirements.
What to do
- Submit the Secondary Degree-Based Career Technical Renewal Application Packet or Secondary Occupational Specialist Renewal Application Packet.
- Include all required documents in one packet.
- Include official transcripts. (Unofficial transcripts are accepted.)
- Include documentation for any training, back-to-industry hours or added endorsements.
