Idaho Career Technical Centers (CTC) were established at the secondary level in the 1998-99 school year. As defined by the legislature and the State Board of Education, a career technical school is an organized school that is separately located and administered and offers high-end, state-of-the-art programs and services for high school students. These programs and services are directly related to the preparation of high school students for employment in current or emerging occupations that require education and training less than a baccalaureate degree.
Several criteria exist to qualify as a CTC. The governing statute is Idaho Code § 33-1002G and the governing rule is IDAPA 55.01.03.101. Beginning in 2018, the Division developed and instituted planning processes to ensure the successful launch of a new CTC. These required planning steps include notifying the Division of your intent to create a CTC and following an outline for at least of year of planning to accomplish everything that needs to happen before the doors are opened. If you are interested in exploring what it would take to become a CTC, review the governing and related statutes and rules together with the Division’s planning documents.
